N.C. Real Estate Company is Celebrated for Being Environmentally Conscious
The first private land conservation agreements between the Town of Davidson, N.C., and a local home developer set the stage to maintain the rural character of a developing neighborhood.
Davidson, N.C. – July 11, 2007 – In an effort to preserve large wooded areas and open space, a North Carolina real estate company is creating a 200-acre neighborhood with nearly 50 percent of its land untouched.
Developer Frank Jacobus of CedarCroft Homes is working in conjunction with the Davidson Lands Conservancy – formed by the town’s citizens in 2000 – on the first private conservation easements in the community of Davidson. The Abersham neighborhood will contain 58 new homes and connect to a future greenway trail on the West Branch of the Rocky River. It is expected to open later this year.
Jacobus said The Abersham Property Owners Association will hold title onto the majority of the open space while the DLC will manage the parcels. This conservation easement will assure protection of 100 acres of open space and remain in effect even when the land is sold.
DLC President Jim Fuller said, “These first conservation easements testify to the unique valuation that the Davidson community places on preserving natural areas and assures the protection of the natural features in perpetuity. … Recent changes in federal tax law offer an unprecedented opportunity to conserve the lands we cherish and to preserve America’s traditional land uses.”
